Dear Lucy,
Remember when I used to write you letters before you were born? They were mostly sad because I didn't think I would get to keep you. Well from here on out only happy letters to you Lucy bird. How lucky are we to be together?
Month ONE. You are now 9 pounds, how did that happen! At about three weeks you finally outgrew preemie clothes. I was so happy about that because you only had 2 cute preemie outfits. Your dad ran around all of Salt Lake trying to find some other ones, but came home with only boy preemie pajamas. You had to wear something! It was a good thing though, because we sent those boy preemie pj's to your cousin Patch who was only 2 ounces bigger than you. You have been to Idaho twice in one month. The first trip we made you were two weeks old, it was a little early , but I was dying for everyone to meet you. The second trip we spent up in Island Park. You have already had your first cold. I squeeze contact solution in your nostrils then suck those little boogers out...it breaks my heart every time. You are a good little eater and eat about every 3 hours, except last night you gave us a really big treat and slept for FIVE hours. Woot woot little baby! You love to bath, we may or may not have had a little incident in the bath when I thought it was a good idea to have you bath with me... you love to be in the baby bjorn (only when your dad wears it). You love lifting up your legs and making them really stiff. You calm down when we play or sing music, and you are a really good car seat rider. Except that one time when we were driving to see your Dad at school, and we got stuck in traffic. I had an emotional break down right with you, your screaming was giving me an anxiety attack and I about pulled over, but didn't. You love having your back pat. Your sleep best when you lay on our chests. You are constantly napping on your dads chest, but occasionally he gives you back to me and says "this little girl is burning a hole through my chest." You somehow swindle your way into our bed every night. You usually start in your bassinet but will cry until we put you on our chest to fall asleep. You already know how to get what you want. You will cry and the second you lay with us you stop crying. We don't mind though. We love it when you try to crawl up us when your diaper is dirty, we love that you have the worlds strongest baby neck and like to put your head up and look at us. We love when you are asleep like a good little baby, and then all the sudden you will try to dive bomb out of our arms. The funniest thing about you is that you grunt ALL the time. You make the funniest noises and sound like a little animal. You will grunt and stretch for 30 minutes before you actually wake up. It cracks us up every time, mostly to see such a cute tiny baby making such weird noises. We also love it when you go spastic when you are hungry. Your dad puts his nose near your face and if you go crazy trying to eat his nose, we know you are hungry. You have recently started pulling my hair and have even pulled a few strands out of my head. You freak out when you are hot, you don't really like a binky, but our thumbs work great to calm you down. You hate having a wet diaper, You have tiny feet and I've already lost about 3 pairs of socks. You are growing into most of your bows, except occasionally you will start to cry and I'll realize that the headband has slipped to cover your eyes. At this point you have a gazillion nick names. Lulu, Lulu bird, lu bug, bug, lulu bean, lucy bear, luce, Lsquared.. the list goes on. I hear your dad call you Lucy bear the most though, and I call you Lulu. You know how most babies lose hair on the back of their heads from being laid down? Not you, every hair is intact mostly because you never really get put down. I'm working on it though. You are just our little toy and we could not be happier parents. You are the cutest.. and don't worry we tell you that at least 1999 times a day. I love you little girl, more than there are words. Love, mom.

Todds Toy
Todd is one smitten daddy. When he is at school he texts and asks for pictures or tells me to update my Instagram, and when he is home she hardly ever leaves his arms, and if she does it is only to fall asleep on his chest. I'm afraid we might be looking at a very spoiled child in our future. I will try my best to keep him under control, but I make no promises. But really how adorable are they?
Welcome Home Lucy
From the second we stepped in the door, we could tell the feeling in our home was going to be different with Lucy around. Having a baby makes it so peaceful and magical. The sights, sounds, smells all seem different and better with her around. Sounds so dumb, I realize that, but it's totally true. I spend 75% of my day in the nursery and am so grateful to Todd for doing so much to make it a place I we LOVE to be.

One happy happy mama
I pushed my little heart out for 40 minutes. Everyone in the room knew exactly what I needed... ice chips and encouraging cheers. Between every push Todd rewarded me by dropping an ice chip in my mouth like a little doggy treat...don't ask, it was extremely helpful and motivating at the time. And then they would all tell me how awesome I was doing and tell me what a good pusher I was. It really wasn't painful and Todd had me laughing after most of the pushes. He made me laugh a couple of times during the pushes and I told him that had to stop so I could reach my full pushing potential. He kept trying to get me to hee hee who like in the movies. I tried it once or twice...not helpful. Then at 10:32 a.m after one last big push they put the most beautiful, tiny, purple-y little baby on my chest. She was here, she was crying, Todd was crying, I was crying and it was the best moment of my life.Thank goodness to a very skilled midwife for untangling my poor little babe from her umbilical cord super quickly . It was wrapped around her neck, her shoulder and then her stomach. The pediatric team was all in the room on standby because of Lucy's cystic hygroma. They took her off my chest and quickly assessed her and gave her gold stars. Later, the medical student in the room who was unaware of the resolved hygroma told us she thought it was so weird that we were all asking about her neck. I was impressed with how quickly they did their tests and got my baby back in my arms. It was such a sweet moment watching Todd hold her for the first time, I'm so happy my mom was there taking pictures so it can be a moment I remember forever. (She just took pictures after delivery... nothing weird or graphic)
About 10 minutes after baby girl was here things got a little weird. They were stitching away and apparently I was just bleeding away. They gave me clotting factor and a few other things to try to get it to stop. It took a while to get under control, but eventually it stopped... obviously. They think my placenta tore away from the wall and that is what created so much bleeding. Then I spiked a fever of 104 and started shivering uncontrollably again. At that point I became really dizzy and delirious. I don't remember much for a while in there, I just remember saying repeatedly that I felt so out of it. For a few hours after labor I felt really sick and was really not all there, but by the end of the night I had perked back up. Some where in the after hours while I was sleeping Todd slipped away and went and took a dental school test... which he miraculously passed with very little studying. The professor would have let him take the test later, but he said he wanted to get it over with so he could just enjoy us and not worry about studying. My mom was my PR person who stayed by my side and let the world know little Lucy was here and healthy. Because of the fever I stayed in the hospital for 48 hours getting antibiotics. Those first few days were so surreal. Actually it is still very surreal. I have never been this happy in my whole life and have never felt so grateful and so blessed.
We love you Lucy Lynn. Thanks for changing our world.
My not so laborious labor
From 4:00-8:00 I listened to Lucys heartbeat on the monitor and watched Todd and my Mom try to sleep curled up on their little chairs. I cried because I had such a full heart at the love that those two amazing people had for me. I was shivering uncontrollably for most of the night which was maybe the worst part of labor. They started me on Pitocin at some point and things progressed until at 9:00 they told me I could start pushing if I wanted to. I was shocked that it was already time to start pushing. I hadn't hardly felt any contractions and had only had one cup of ice!The cart was prepared, the midwife gowned up. Todd helped with one limp leg the nurse helped with the other and we were ready to go...
My People
April showers bring May... BABIES! I seriously can't even believe that 60% of our closest dental school friends are expecting with us. It is the craziest and funnest thing ever. I'm winning the due date race, with Kerin a month behind me. So far we know that three of us are having girls, one of us a boy and two unknowns. These amazing girls threw Kerin and I a very cute girly shower at Jordans house. There was great food, side busting laughter, and darling presents. Having these girls in my life is one of my greatest blessings right now. Being with them always buoys me up and makes me so happy. It's crazy how well we all get along, like we have known each other all of our lives.I sincerely think we were put together for a reason. I have learned so much from each of them, and look up to and love them all. Now if only they weren't all drop dead gorgeous, and I didn't come away from every hang out feeling like frumpy Mc frumperson I might love them even more. I can't wait till they are as pregnant and awkward looking as me... that will help.
Babies are cool
Ummm.... how obsessed am I with little babies. VERY. I can't believe one of these cute little creatures is going to be mine in a few short weeks (or months, but whatever). This is my good friend Keeli's second little baby boy who is now a week old. She let me take a few (and or 400) pictures of him today. Being in her house was like being in a dream land. It was so serene and peaceful. The place was spotless, she already looked exactly like she did before she had the baby, her 2 year old was playing calmly in his toy room, Keeli's eyes did not look the least bit sleep deprived, her hair was done, her flipping bed was made, and she was nursing like she'd been doing it her whole life. And her mom wasn't even there. I came away feeling like... was that for real? Dangit, part of me wishes I could skip to baby two, then I would know what I was doing and be like Keeli. I want the first week of my babies life to be all clean house, serenity and breast feeding bliss. Oh well, I will continue to prepare for a cholicy baby, traumatic breast feeding a tornado house and possibly a little post-partum psychosis... that way anything short of those things I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Todd + Pregnancy
These are just a couple of things about experiencing pregnancy with Todd that I have to write down because I don't want to forget... The many cups of ice water he gets me every night between the hours of 11:00 p.m and 1:00 a.m. The half eaten pieces of bread that I eat early in the morning and place next to him in bed that he just laughs at when he wakes up. The nights of him making me eat as many almonds as how old I am to force me to get calories. His secret mixing of miralax in my orange juice. His pep talks to get me to drink my iron supplement. His forgiveness at my many irrational freak outs. His "I'm so sorry this sucks so much" face as he stands outside the bathroom listening to me throw up. I don't want to forget the nights he slept sitting up with me because the nausea was so bad, or how he talks to my belly and falls asleep with his hand waiting for baby girls kicks. I don't want to forget his constant making fun of me for whining and our prayers where he always throws in things like we are grateful Suzy is "carrying", or "with child" or "great with child." Who doesn't just say pregnant? I will never forget the trial we went through together of not knowing if our baby was going to make it. I'll never forget how hard he tried to cheer me up, or how faithful and strong he was even though he was sad too. I love this boy more than there are words and cannot wait to see him as a dad. We are two lucky girls.
