Todds white coat ceremony was seriously one of the proudest days of my whole life. The Ceremony is just a cool way to mark the day that he “embarks on a lifetime of being a Doctor” or something like that. They chant an oath, make a pledge and get welcomed to the career and all that jazz. It’s stupendously ceremonious and over the top. I loved it.
In the morning before the ceremony I carefully ironed his white coat with this huge proud smile on my face. I had glimpses of me ironing his cute little button up shirts in the mornings for years to come. Later that afternoon Todd took his parents and I on a tour of his amazing school and then we went to the ceremony. It was held at a beautiful country club at the base of the mountains. It was a pretty intimate ceremony because each student could only have three guests. There was such a crazy, charged, almost spiritual feeling in the place. On more than one occasion there were tears in my eyes of gratitude and pride that Todd is on his way to accomplishing our dreams and that Heavenly Father has made our lives work out more perfectly than we could have ever dreamed. He sent us to the perfect school for Todd. It really hit me for the first time that; Wow, this is a huge deal, this was all meant to be for us to be here, there are specific reasons we are here…Crazy feeling.
The highlight of the whole day, perhaps my whole month was when Todd introduced me to Dr.Sanduvall. This was the guy that interviewed him. I shook his hands and said thanks for letting Todd into school. He said “ Oh no, Todd let himself him, he was very impressive.Todd came that day and lit us on fire, really he lit everyone on fire.” He went on to tell me how everyone on the committee was impressed by Todd. He called Todd personally to accept him into school. I came to find out that the secretary and the Dean called everyone else, but Dr Sanduvall made a special call to accept Todd. The cool part is his mission president has said these exact words about Todd to me “He lit the mission on fire. He gave missionaries fire in their bones.” Pretty amazing. Feel free to gag now about my incessant bragging about this boy. I can’t help myself.
He awes me.
